Since it is still one company and the medical procedures are just the tip of the
iceberg, a lot of administrative and data-driven work is done below the surface. The
Kinderwunschzentrum Goldenes Kreuz is Austria’s largest in-vitro-fertility clinic and
treats around 5,000 patients per year. Hence a huge amount of data is collected
over the time. It is necessary that both medical experts such as lab employees,
doctors and care attendants, as well as employees working in the Finance, or
Marketing department have access to this data in a timely and accurately manner.
The solution to this challenge was to implement an integrated IT system, which is
accessible for each employee from each terminal PC in both offices and even from
home via remote access or via portable devices such as smartphones or tablet PCs.

The basic structure consists of about 30 terminal clients (small PCs without a
comprehensive hardware structure, which are only able to operate by connecting to
a server) that are linked together with a gateway and through a wireless network
connection (offices headquarter). The big advantage is that each terminal client
connects to a server which is located in the hospital and hosts the entire ERP
system. As a consequence each person with proper user rights can easily access
his or her desktop environment, files and e-mail box regardless from the department
where he or she currently is located. This option has been an important request,
