A new member has joined the INPLP: Justine A. Collins (Jamaica)
Hart Muirhead Fatta is a law firm, offering a wide range of services to corporate and individual clients. The firm provides the range of services normally found in larger firms but with the client care, personal service and efficiency in costs offered by boutique firms, thereby offering to our clients the best of both worlds.The firm was founded in 1990 by its founding partners, Hugh Hart, the late John Muirhead and George Fatta. The firm has since grown substantially with the addition of several partners. The late John Muirhead retired from the partnership in March 2003 and the late George Fatta in June 2008. While the focus of the firm is primarily on commercial law, members of the firm have several years of commercial litigation experience in Jamaica, the British Virgin Islands and England at first instance and appellate levels. The firm has developed a robust litigation practice and maintains close relationships with independent leading Counsel to aid in serving its clients in Jamaica and abroad.
Justine A. Collins CIPP/E, CIPM, FIP was called to the Bar in Jamaica in 2016, after having completed her studies at the Norman Manley Law School. She received a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) with honours from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Barbados. She presently serves as a Justice of the Peace for the Parish of Saint Andrew. Justine joined the firm in 2017 and became a Partner in July, 2023. She is also the holder of a Master of Laws (LLM) in Commercial and Corporate Law with Distinction from Queen Mary, University of London. She has an avid interest in technology law, with a research focus on blockchain applications, computer law, financial technology (Fintech) and E-commerce law. Justine also has a certificate in Fintech Law and Policy from Duke University and a certificate in Fintech from the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford. She is a Certified Information Privacy Professional for European law (CIPP/E) and Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). Justine is a member of the Jamaican Bar Association, the IAPP, the Rotaract Club of Kingston, the Jamaican Chapter of the Internet Society, the Computer Society of Jamaica and the Commonwealth Lawyers Association. She serves as a director of Jamaica Central Securities Depository Limited, JCSD Trustee Services Limited and Access Financial Services Limited and is also a member (and former co-chair) of the Publications Committee of the Jamaican Bar Association and also serves as a member of the Telecommunications, Broadcasting and Technology Committee, the Commercial Law Committee and the Maritime Law Committee of the Jamaican Bar Association. She is an active member of the Rotaract Club of Kingston. Justine developed and lectures a Data Protection course at the Jamaica Stock Exchange e-campus. In addition, Justine has presented submissions on the Data Protection Bill to the Joint Select Committee of Parliament.
Justine has published articles for the International Journal of Law and Information Technology; the Social Science Research Network (ssrn.com); and the Jambar Journal. She has presented at the Commonwealth Lawyers Association, the Jamaican Bar Association, the General Legal Council, the Jamaica Stock Exchange and various conferences.
In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering and traveling.
Jamaica is an island nation located in the Caribbean Sea. It is the third-largest island in the Caribbean, with a population of approximately 3 million people. The capital city is Kingston.
